Our New Theme Song

NASA is holding a contest for a wake-up song for the astronauts of Endeavor STS-134.  You can listen to the ten finalists (and vote for your favorite) here.  Boogie Woogie Shuttle and Rocket Scientist are very catchy, but Dreams You Give, by Brian Plunkett of Missouri, is our new homeschooling theme song.

He captures, beautifully, why I am an educator, and all that I hope for for my children, and for children everywhere.

Thank you, Brian.  We love it.*

* Could you pretty, pretty please put it on YouTube so we can continue to enjoy it after the contest?  We hope you win, but it would be nice to share it with others long after April 19th!

LOVE this ! I listened to them all and had to cast my vote for “Rocket Scientist”. I’d wanna wake up to that one. 🙂

    • Siggi says:

Yeah, “Rocket Scientist” DOES rock, and was in the lead last time I checked, so it looks like many other geeks folks agree with you!

Boogie Woogie Shuttle has a fun tune, but Rocket Scientist is more fun in general. Gotta give props for BWS’s ” T -3, This is Mission Control, you are cleared to rock, you are cleared to roll.”

My husband is Brian Plunkett and our family wrote and recorded, “Dreams You Give” because our boys are very passionate about the Shuttle Program. We homeschool because it gives us the freedom to explore their passions and dig more deeply into their interests. Both of them are in a local Young Astronaut Program and have been in several local musical theater productions, so this contest combining music and space seemed like a great project for us. We’re so very honored to have made it to the Top 10 and are humbled by all of the support we’ve received in the short time since the contest has been open. Thanks for your kind encouragement. If you’d like to follow our progress or link to the voting information we set up a facebook page, “Dreams You Give” and we’ll see about the YouTube video.

Hi! I’m so glad you found me!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for my new song. I KNOW I’ll be listening to it on the days that homeschooling feels like a chore, or when I need just a little bit more motivation to do that cool (but messy) science experiment or take that field trip.

I will DEFINITELY be checking out your facebook page, and hope to hear you all on YouTube in the near future. BEST of luck in the contest; your song might not be super peppy, but I can’t imagine the crew of Endeavor would have many dry eyes among them if your song won. Who *wouldn’t* give their all to a day that started with a tribute like that?

We’re personal friends of the family that wrote and performed Dreams You Give. It’s so fun to hear their voices and I agree that the song’s message is incredibly inspiring.

I’m hoping for a youtube version, too! 🙂

    • Siggi says:

PLEASE get on them to make this song part of NASA’s on-going cultural legacy, either through YouTube, or iTunes, or SOMETHING. It really is FAR too good to let slide away…

Glad you found us, and thanks for commenting. 🙂
